Welcome to the European Health Policy Group.
The European Health Policy Group (EHPG) is an informal, collegial and multidisciplinary network dedicated to stimulating international collaboration and learning in health policy. Founded in 2001 by Prof. Gwyn Bevan and Dr. Adam Oliver at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), EHPG brings together researchers from across disciplines and countries to discuss comparative health policy, health system governance, and health services and management research.
EHPG holds two meetings each year. The Spring meeting is hosted in a different country by local institutions, offering insight into the host country’s health system and policy context. The Autumn meeting is hosted by LSE’s Department of Health Policy.
Meeting format
EHPG meetings provide a friendly and constructive forum for discussing research papers in development. Participants are expected to read papers in advance and contribute actively to the discussion.
Each paper is introduced by a discussant, who summarises the paper, comments on its strengths and weaknesses, and suggests ways to strengthen the argument or analysis. Chairs guide the session to encourage wider discussion across countries, disciplines and perspectives, rather than a series of questions directed only to the authors.
Papers and participation
Papers are usually around 5,000 words, though shorter or longer submissions are welcome. Authors are asked to submit draft papers around two weeks before the meeting so that discussants and participants have time to prepare.
A participation fee is charged to cover organisational costs, and we aim to keep this as low as possible. A dinner is usually organised on the evening of the first day. Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs.
